Sometimes we forget about the breeds of sheep that have been being raised for hundreds of years and are often the foundation of the economy of the region that they come from. We’ll spend time with Shetlands, Icelandics, Finsheep, and Jacobs to see why these breeds have been so popular even though they are not as large as meat breeds or have wool as soft as Merinos. Each primitive breed has more variability in the wool than most developed breeds, in color, wool type, and fineness (softness) Join us in this class and you may discover a new favorite!
Students should bring: A spinning wheel in good working order – If you have a Woolee Winder, please bring a standard flyer as well; at least 3-4 empty bobbins; lazy kate
